Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Many of you have been contacting my office about a town hall meeting. I'm happy to share that I will be hosting a telephone town hall Monday, March 16 from 6-7 p.m. A telephone town hall allows me to reach out to more of you and provides you the convenience of joining in from the comfort of your home. To participate, please call (253) 244-3373. If you want to ask me a question during the live call, press * (star) on your phone during the call. I look forward to hearing from you!
My proposal, aimed at reducing the dropout rate for at-risk youth, passed the House on March 2. It was the first bill I've sponsored that passed the House floor, and it was a proud moment for me and the local educators who helped me craft the legislation. Read more about it and listen to my floor speech sharing my passion for helping these students graduate here.
Thanks to all of you who have written about a potential gas tax increase. As you probably heard, the Senate passed a transportation package that would increase the gas tax by 11.7 cents over four years. I have serious concerns with the lack of accountability with current tax dollars by the Department of Transportation. While I understand the critical role of infrastructure in our economy, I believe we need to fix the problems with the bureaucracy before we ask drivers to pay more at the pump. I appreciate the reforms passed by the Senate, and I think they're a good start. I'd like to see those reforms play out first before I can support a gas tax. We must ensure any new dollars will be used smarter and do more to advance a strong transportation system in our state.
I appreciate and welcome all comments, questions and suggestions so I can represent you effectively in Olympia. My contact information is below.
It's an honor to serve as your 26th District representative!
