Rep. Caldier seeks COVID-relief funding to incentivize return of kids safely to school through amendment to House Bill 1368

On Monday evening during debate of House Bill 1368, the COVID-19 federal funding measure, Rep. Michelle Caldier, R-Port Orchard, offered an amendment to provide nearly $157 million for grants to public schools from the federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund.

To incentivize reopening schools, Amendment 23 would have provided half of additional funding when a reopening plan was established. The other half would be provided once schools reopen. Unfortunately, the amendment was rejected.
